I've been reading in Revelation lately during my quiet time. And a couple days back I came across something that has stuck. In chapter four it describes the throne of God. I won't ruin it for you by quoting here, you need to go read chapter four yourself and get a taste of it. Maybe keep on reading and get lost in the magnanimous-ness of God.
Okay, so the throne...in my devotional book it was talking about how the prayers of the saints are before the throne of God and how august and majestic and holy a place it is and how we need never fear that God doesn't see or hear our request. And it got me to thinking about my requests before the throne. And I started writing them out like this:
Before the throne....my husband is in the ninth month of job loss.
Before the throne...we celebrate Thanksgiving without our matriarch.
Before the throne...my babe has croup.
Before the throne...
It changes your perspective doesn't it? Before the throne of God your most tender, precious, heart-breaking, requests are placed in bowls like incense and are ever-present to the Lord. The prayers you cannot even find words for are before the Lord at His throne. Before the elders and the winged-creatures and the saints who continuously praise His name and the angels that serve as messengers - your request is laid before... and answered.
"As soon as you made your request known, your words were heard and an answer was given, and I have come in response to them." (Daniel 10:12 and 9:23)
This Thanksgiving as we prepare our hearts and our bellies for more-than-enough, I want to place before the throne my thanks. My gratefulness. My blessings. I want the aroma of my incense to be one of sweet thankfulness.
What about you?
Thanks for this timely message. I was crying before the throne of God just this morning as this week has been one of the most exhausting, overwhelming and frustrating weeks that I have had in a very long time. But yet, I do have so much to be thankful for. A God, husband and children who have helped see me through it.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Thanksgiving, Jody. Sorry it will be with some sadness.
Going to read Revelations 4 right now....
