Title? What Title?

Do you know I spend almost as much time thinking about what to title a post as I do typing the post? Always trying to seem catchy and witty. It takes me a LONG time to be catchy and witty. I just sit there and stare at that blank space and think and wonder and think and wonder. What the HECK am I going to call this thing? Why do I have to call it anything? Back in the day when we wrote in diaries or journals we didn't title our entries. We just dated them and went on to the guts of the matter. Why does everything have to have a label?

Why is that?

Why do we, as an American culture, feel the need to LABEL EVERYTHING. Everything in its place, properly secured with an id tag. Everyone in their tight little cubby, bounded on every side by criteria, requirements, expectations, quotas, deadlines and yes...titles. Even in the religious circles. We are known by religion type, denomination, geographic location, church name, baptized, immersed, sprinkled, confirmed, anointed, recommitted, backslider, church attender, tither....

I'm not saying all labels are bad, or that labeling is bad. I'm just asking WHY. WHY do we feel this incessant need to put a name to it? There are no answers today, cute, funny, witty or otherwise. Just a question. What do you think?
