Update: Lest you think I have it all together; I put my one year old down for a nap over one hour ago and I can still hear her screaming and banging the window blinds. It has about got me unglued. UNGLUED, ya’ll and I’m ready to throw in the towel and say goodnight to the rest of today. I do not have it all together. Will you choose with me the harder choices today? The choices of living despite my circumstances, above my circumstances, enhancing my circumstances….Its not easy. But I want to lay my head down tonight and imagine my God pleased with my choices. He’s always pleased with me. But I want Him agreeing with my choices. Right now, the choice to ignore my child’s stubborn will to not sleep and go about my work anyway. What are you choosing today?
God has given us great power. Of course, the power of His Holy Spirit. But He’s also given us power we often overlook: the power of choice. Free will. Making up your own mind. Whatever you want to call it. This ability is powerful.
We have power to camp our minds on whatever we want to think about. We act, live out, what we have camped on in our minds. We get the power to believe or not believe truth. We get to choose how we will behave at any given moment.
These things are powerful. POWERFUL. And put in a bundle, they total the sum of how our lives are lived. Alone, this power can become chaotic, toxic even. But combined with the power of the Holy Spirit, the power of choice can become a skillfully wielded tool for successful daily living. Successful, as in, living the “real life” as Paul calls it, in the New Testament. I want to live the “real life”, don’t you?
What are you choosing today? Are you choosing to believe and then, live, in the truth? Are you choosing what attitude you will have? How you will treat others? What you will say? How you will think about yourself?
What are you choosing today?
