Thoughts to Ponder

Hey ladies,
What a rainy, dreary day this is! In my devotions this week I've come across some interesting perspectives on the sovereignty of God that I wanted to share with you. In the midst of such uncertain economic times, when everyone is affected negatively in some form or fashion, we need to KNOW that God is, and He always will be.

From Edward Bouverie Pusey (1800-1882) - "Everything... is overruled to each of us by the all-holy and all-loving will of God. Whatever befalls us, however it befalls us, we must receive as the will of God. For if the least thing could happen to us without God's permission, it would be something out of God's control. God's providence or His love would not be what they are. Almighty God Himself would not be the same God; not the God whom we believe, adore, and love."

From Mrs. H.W.S. (pub 1875) - "The circumstances of her life she could not alter, but she took them to the Lord, and handed them over into His management; and then she believed that He took it, and she left all the responsibility and the worry and anxiety with Him. As often as the anxieties returned she took them back; and the result was that, although the circumstances remained unchanged, her soul was kept in perfect peace in the midst of them."

Our God is not surprised by your situation; He didn't get blind-sided by the changes that have occurred. Rather, He is busy WORKING, working it out for your good. For your good, friend. For my good.

Last Sunday I had the privilege of facilitating some conversations in our Sunday School class and this is what I told them. Jesus said that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. It may not feel light. It may strain and weary us. But unless we are in blatant sin, the burden we have is the lightest one He has for us. Anything else would be unbearable. The load we carry is the lightest load we can have and still be growing in Him. Its not so heavy we die from the weight of it (though we think we might) but its just heavy enough to have to surrender it to the care and management of our Savior. For you see, He said it was His yoke, and His burden. Give it to Him. Trust Him with it. He's worthy to be trusted.

Let's give Him some very deserving praise. In what ways have you seen His faithfulness lately? How has He proven Himself trustworthy with your burden? Let's take some time to publicly give Him some love.
(This is the part where you comment on the blog. Really, you can do it. Promise. It won't hurt.)

  1. I love the thought process here. What a refreshing (and totally validating) way to reframe the idea of the yoke and burden we must all bear. How different it feels when we remember that 1) it is HIS yoke and 2) it is the lightest possible while still giving us room and opportubity to grow in Him. This new way of looking at a familiar concept is so timely.
