A famous person died today. Its all over the news, talking about the tragedy of it, his accomplishments, and on and on and ON. Sometimes I wonder if its too much publicity, too much information.
Around the same time, without hardly a notice, another life left this earth. A little baby named Melanie, from Uganda. She was born with a heart problem and through the miraculous hand of God was provided an opportunity to come to the states to have much needed surgery. That happened. But there were complications and then hope and then more complications. And in the wee hours of this morning, she died. Family in Uganda won’t see her alive again. She wasn’t even a year old.
As I sat reading the update about Melanie, I just cried. Not for her, she’s at peace and her body is at rest, finally. But for her family, for all those that prayed for her healing. For the medical staff and how hard they worked to save her. And I keep repeating to myself the verse in Psalm 119: “You are good and what You do is good; teach me Your ways.” Because I don’t understand. And it doesn’t feel very good right now. But You are good and what You do is good…teach me Your ways.
While our country mourns the loss of a great political leader, I am mourning the loss of a little baby, wondering why stuff like this has to happen, and trusting in faith that no matter how I feel, God’s Word is still true. He says He’s faithful, and loving, and true, and good. So I choose to believe the truth.
If you are the praying kind, would you pray for Melanie’s family? Her mom and dad Sarah and Patrick? And the siblings that are still in Uganda?
