Ready Or Not, Here We Come!

So, my babe has four days of school left. FOUR DAYS. And then summer vacation. I'm sure that out there somewhere is a mom just giddy with delight that summer is starting and she gets to be with her kids 24-7. But me? Not so much. I LOVE my girls. LOVE LOVE LOVE them. Did I mention that I love them? But I am not a "kid person" by nature and it takes extreme effort for me to play and be silly. To do that for 3 months straight makes me feel very sick. The few moments I've allowed myself to contemplate the summer months, it has been in trying to think up things to do. Fun things. Educational would be great. Cheap, or free would be even better. Entertaining so that we don't have the kids cartoon channel on all day long and my kids start kissing the TV goodnight and telling it thanks for a good day.
Am I speaking to anybody out there besides me?
So here's the question of the day: what are you planning on doing with your kids for the summer? Anything we can copy or follow after? Anyone in the area know of fun free stuff to do? Keep in mind, my girls are 5 and 1, so I'm limited in what I can engage in with my 5 year old. Thanks for the advice!

And by the way, since I'm obsessed with my own popularity, I checked my site meter again and just want to give a hearty warm welcome to Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Colorado, Virginia, British Colombia, Guam and South Africa! My blog is now INTER-CONTINENTAL-AL-AL-AL-Al-al-al (as you hear the big announcer voice fade away)! Thanks for putting up with me. Ya'll are great. Really.

  1. I am so with you. I have been compiling a stack of articles, lists, and websites of things to do so we don't go stir crazy. Let's get together and share notes! I am afraid I might not make it all summer.Robn

  2. I feel exactly the same way. My son's last day of first grade was a couple days ago and I'm a little anxious with how I will keep him busy all summer. I also have an 18 month old little girl so it is really challenging to find things that both kids can do. Of course the library, park and bouncy places are always my fall-back but it would be nice to find other things to do. I feel your pain! I'm thinking of researching some arts and crafts we can make at home. Good luck!
