Since I'm not involved in any corporate Bible study right now, I've been re-reading a great book from my Grace Life Ministries days: The Rest of the Gospel; When the Partial Gospel has Worn You Out by Dan Stone and Greg Smith. Not to be confused with Mormonism, this book is based on Scriptures that point out our identity in Christ and the cross and His completed work in us. Its very thought provoking. I like books like that. Make you think. Make you consider what you believe and why you believe it. Kind of like spring cleaning the closets of your mind; get rid of what doesn't fit anymore, organize the rest and make room for the new.
Since its not an actual study book I take it chapter by chapter and mark every Scripture reference and then do a study of it myself; see if I agree or not. And as I've been going through the book, an idea has been tickling my mind. What if there was a book entitled: Bible Verses Christians Don't Believe Are True For Them" or "What A Christian Would Look Like If They Took Jesus At His Word"? Think I'm being mean? Critical?
Well dear friend, let me ask you something. Would your life look any different if you took Jesus at his word? (Despite what you feel?) Would you live any differently if you believed: "But the one who joins him (0r her)self to the Lord is one spirit with Him" 1 Corinthians 6:17? or "Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you? 2 Corinthians 13:5? Would I look different? Would there be so many ups and downs of our faith? So much discouragement and trying and failing and trying and failing and frustration?
I'm certainly not saying I have it altogether or I'm "one-up" on anyone else. But as I watch my girls LIVE in complete trust and faith in their parents' protection, love, and provision, I can't help but wonder if the Christian life is suppose to be that easy too; that faithful in the One in charge. If "Christ Jesus in you" looks just like you and not like a corporate version of religiosity. Its easy to be you; if you are resting in who you are in Christ.
I encourage you to check out the Scriptures yourself to see how things line up for you. What do YOU believe?
wow, this post is deep...I'll have to read this for my summer reading on vacation.
