You know that verse in the Bible that talks about being prepared in season and out of season to give an answer to any who ask? What do you do with that verse? In your daily life, do you DO anything with that?
If we’re honest with ourselves, I’d say we don’t do much, if anything. When we hear the verse or read it we think, yep, we need to know why we believe what we believe. And then our minds move to more “pressing” things, like the laundry, the screaming child, the deadline, the phone call, dinner. That’s how it is for me anyway.
This week I’ve had two different opportunities to give an answer. To people I highly respect; not only positionally, but personally. We disagreed on a few things and I needed to explain why I thought differently. And I fumbled. A LOT. I couldn’t the words out in the right order, couldn’t give them a word-picture to understand where I was coming from. Couldn’t for the life of me remember a single Scriptural address… it was more than frustrating and a tad embarrassing. Thank goodness they were believers, that on the issues that really matter, we agree.
What would have happened had they been seekers instead of believers? What if they had been people God put in my path specifically to show them the way and I couldn’t get the words out? Its got me to thinking…. How prepared are we to give an answer? Have you practiced? Do you know if what you believe you can back up with Scripture? And where that Scripture is located?
Let’s be ready friends. Let’s take the time we don’t think we have and practice. Let’s know for sure what we think we know and WHY. Let’s be ready.
