Only One

I love, L-O-V-E love the smell of lilacs. It is probably one of my most favorite scents. And one of my most favorite flowers. Right up there with tulips and lilies of the valley. I have a lilac bush in my yard. Its still little, not even 3 feet yet. Normally it will produce 3 or more bunches of beautiful lilac-colored flowers with the most delicious, sweet scent. This year it only gave me one. ONE. Its a large bunch, has a lot of little blooms on it, but its only one. And I wanted much more. But all I got was one. So I clipped it today and brought it inside. What's the use of staring at it out the window when I could be breathing in its heavenly aroma inside? And let me tell you, it is POWERFUL. That little thing can produce some sort of perfume to intoxicate a room. I'm breathing it in for all its worth because with these little guys, once they're cut their little lifespan is drastically reduced. It is beautiful and enchanting. Innocent and pure. It reminds me of springtime in Michigan and Mackinac Island Lilac Festivals and the smell of the air after a good night-time rain. My little lilac bush may have produced only one bunch this season. But right now, that's all I need.
