Dreaming

What is your dream job? If you could do ANYthing, despite the obstacles, what would it be? What is standing in the way of you doing it? Is it worth trying? Even if you fail, would it be worth it to know you at least tried?

Uninvited job searching (my new term for “unemployed” or “laid off”) naturally brings about these questions. In the beginning particularly, when the possibilities seem plentiful, we dream, we wonder, we mentally roll through some fantasies. But bum lead after dead end after rejection the dream is a little less vivid, it pales next to responsibilities, obligations and duties. What stands in the way seems bigger and the worthiness of the dream seems gradually unimportant. We just need to find something, anything to keep us going. Even if we’re miserable.

Am I going too far to say that even for the employed it can be the same way? For those quite settled in their “normal”? The risks can never be overcome by the reward for taking a chance. And yet, there’s that dream, tickling the corners of your mind, interrupting your sleep and leaving you at 3:00 in the morning wondering if this is all there is in life.

Dear hubby and I have had many opportunities to dream as of late. And we have. Its been fun and exciting. Even if we know in the end, we’re going to take whatever job is offered. Are you dreaming? Do you have the means and the opportunity to try? For those of us who have obligations beyond our control that prohibit us, would you please go try? Even if you fail? Would you go and attempt your dream, on behalf of all of us who can’t? (or won’t) Then come tell us about it.

What’s your dream?
